History

Based on extensive global experience helping organizations develop greenhouse gas emissions reduction strategies IESC identified a significant need for Encompass™ within the Canadian market to ensure tangible results in an increasingly regulated environment and carbon-constrained world.

Encompass™ is the result of IESC's adaptation of the Bilan Carbone® methodology for use in Canada. Bilan Carbone® is an emissions accounting model created in 2006 by the French Agency for the Environment and Energy Management (ADEME). On the principles of accessibility, integration, transparency and universal use, Bilan Carbone® was developed as a method for estimating greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions originating from any entity including a municipality, business, factory, event, etc. It has been highly successful and is now widely used throughout France where it has also begun to shape global carbon policy.

In partnership with the National Research Council of Canada and ADEME, and holding true to the Bilan Carbone® principles, IESC completed the calibration of Bilan Carbone® for use in Canada; as part of this adaptation work it was named Encompass™ to suit the particularities of the domestic Canadian environment.

In developing the name and logo for Encompass, IESC saw an opportunity to both give insight into its capabilities and reflect the tool's unique history and origins.
